Since last week, we are collecting donations for implementing Tor – an
anonymity proxy service [1].
Last Wednesday, founder of Tor Roger Dingledine and Tor evangelist Jacob
Applebaum held a talk [2] (video [3]) at Technische Universität München,
were they again explained why Tor is needed to circumvent (government’s)
censorships. They mentioned, that the number of exit nodes of the
network has risen from 3000 to 4000 nodes in the past few weeks [4].
We created a wish on the IPFire wishlist, because we got a lot of emails
from our community requesting for Tor as an IPFire add-on. The wish is
open for donations now and we hope, that a lot of people from the IPFire
community will support it, so that we, who are using IPFire, can support
the Tor network and benefit from it, too.
Installing the proxy on IPFire makes Tor easy to use from your network.
We plan creating a simple web configuration interface, where you can
configure in which way you want to use Tor – either as an exit node or
as an entry node.
Why use Tor? Because privacy matters and we need to get it back. Learn
more about people who use Tor [5] and why should use it, too.
