Introducing DDNS

Hello, this is a post to update you all about the recent developments regarding the support for the various upcoming dynamic DNS providers. Rationale Some of the major dynamic DNS providers stopped their free services or made them unusable so that people started searching for alternatives. In IPFire 2, a script called setddns.pl [1] is responsible for updating the dynamic DNS records. This script has grown over the last couple of months and if you have looked into it you will have noticed that it has become from ugly to almost un-maintainable. The decision that we don't want to take this mess with us into the next generation of IPFire was already made many years ago. DDNS A project called ddns was started which is a pure Python client that is much more flexible, cleanly rewritten and easily extensible. It is cross-platform, cross-distribution and does not need any third-party python modules. The basics already written years ago, Stefan Schantl and I worked on making this ready for IPFire 2 and added all the providers that are currently supported by setddns.pl and ez-ipupdate. Bug reports go to the usual place: https://bugzilla.ipfire.org/describecomponents.cgi?product=DDNS%20Updater There is no fixed release schedule for this, but we are pretty sure that this won't take long until DDNS arrives in IPFire 2. That means that we won't take any patches for the setddns.pl script that add support for new providers any more. Guardian 2.0 Testversion 011

Hello followers, at first I have to thanks to all of you which have joined the guardian 2.0 testing team. I've got a lot of positive feedback but also has been noticed about several tiny issues. I've uploaded an updated test version to http://people.ipfire.org/~stevee/guardian-2.0/. Building 'next' or 'master' fails

Guardian 2.0

Hello, first of all guys, great job on new features, especially GeoIP and new Guardian, this are the features that are of great value. I will try to contribute on my part by testing, and translating Ipfire to Croatian. I have installed Guardian 2.10, just like in the IpFire planet post. I have now in Web interface new Guardian option, and I have setup basics. I have enabled the Guardian, but it just won't run. It always displays stopped in Web Interface. Issuing command: guardianctrl start Starting Guardian... Unable to continue: /usr/bin/guardian is running It displays that it's running. However, trying to stop it, displays this error: guardianctrl stop /etc/rc.d/init.d/guardian: line 33: [: too many arguments I have setuped a log in debug mode, but it doesnt give any more information, other then this: /usr/bin/guardian -d My host IP-address is: 5.133.x.x My gatewayaddess is: 85.94.x.x Loaded 1 entries from /var/ipfire/guardian/guardian.ignore Created watcher for /var/log/snort/alert Created watcher for /var/log/messages Created watcher for /var/log/httpd/error_log Running in debug mode... I can tell that no new firewall entries have been loaded into iptables regarding guardian, so it must not be running properly. Please advise. regards from midly warm Croatia Blago Culjak

New IPFire theme

Hi, On the IPFire forum page (http://forum.ipfire.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=12391) I have added a theme that I mady originally for myself, but other people seem to like it, The original IPFire theme is nice, but I was looking for a full-width theme. As I couln't find that, I decided to see if I could make one myself, as I have a long background in webdevellopment. I also edited the clwarn.cgi file, but as it's not actually part of the theme itself, it could possibly be overwritten by a next update? I wanted to theme the proxy error page, but as this is located even further in the source code, I am hesitating to do this, for the same reason of loosing changes by an update. compiling an actual version of python

Hi , I am new to this list and would like to say hi to everybody. As I am an old python hand, I would like to have an actual python running on ipfire. So that will be my first attempt to get my feet wet with developing for ipfire. now my question: is such an project already in the works by somebody of you? thanks robert

This was totally my fault, and anyone else who does it should have to go through what I did. However, I messed up the upgrade from 2.15 core 86 to 2.17.1. Here is how I did it. I had core 85 installed, and did the upgrade to core 86. However, I did not reboot (I did it from the command line and there was no notification there that a reboot was required). I then immediately made the change to 2.17.1. On reboot, the machine did not come up. Unfortunately, I had it set up for scon, and my serial cable is at a client site, so I was not able to see an error message. If you want, I can set up the same scenario and see if it happens again after I get my serial cable back from them (tomorrow).
