Godd morning all,
basically you are right, that it is comparable to libvirt/qemu and it is a fantastic peace of SW which enhances the ipfire eco system a lot. I think docker is also a good investigation because it can run on very small systems, even on a RPI and you can do thinks what you cannot do with qemu easily. E.g. I am using pmacct in a docker container to monitor all my traffic per internal IP. You just have to past the network=host option. Also HW/Device Passthrough is much easier compard to qemu/kvm. The impact would not be very much. Soma additional Kernel Modules and a new small package. I have everythink tied together. The question is, is somebody else interessted?
Best regards
Ben
Hi Ben I'm not Michael but I also have a opinion to this points.
With Docker it is possible to extend the FW much more without having > to build all the Addons you like to play around (e.g. nginx, pmacct, > transmission, tvheadend, etc..) It makes thinks much easier.
Such as with the libvirt / qemu addon. I use it and like it! In my opinnion we don't need another virtualization tool.
For that a fast filesystem is usefull which is provided in newer > kernels (overlayfs). The currently used Kernel is close to its EOL.
Yes, I also think the kernel should be updatet.
