Hey folks, just want to let you know that I'm alive and added *WIP (Work In Progress. Sven, please don't start with coding yet)* Screens of the Blog at Zeplin - https://app.zeplin.io/project/58cb0217f2317d48c7a802f2/dashboard?seid=5b0dc… I discovered 4 different locations where a blog article appears: 1. https://planet.ipfire.org/ 2. https://planet.ipfire.org/post/ipfire-2-19-core-update-120-is-available-for… 3. https://www.ipfire.org/news/ipfire-2-19-core-update-118-released 4. https://downloads.ipfire.org/release/ipfire-2.19-core120 Did I catch them all or are there more? My goal is to provide only one version of an article which can be used for each destination. Which is already almost the case. For the future we should think about merging all those separated subdomains into one piece of website with a new navigation structure. I don't think they need to be technically merged together. Just one single navigation which can handle lots of links should do the trick. Best, Maurice

Hi there, I would like to discuss 2 things: 1. Frontend technique for the upcoming IPFire Webinterface (what was the official name for it?) 2. Setup of a project board to keep us up to date. *IPFire Webinterface* I know that it will still take a while until we start with the Webinterface, but I want to discuss this early. I would like to suggest to use "CSS-Grid" for it instead of Bootstrap. Sven, if I remember right you customized Bootstrap a lot and it becomes a bit messy. Is this correct? I'm pretty sure that the IPFire Team is not looking for a standard prebuild Bootstrap Admin Interface which you can for free or you can buy for ~30$. They want a unique Interface. Means we need a customized Bootstrap. Michael, correct my if I'm wrong. If my assumption is right it doesn't worked well with the Website. Without Bootstrap the Design is not even more bound to Bootstrap's Layout Grid. During the last years I designed for responsive webapps and native mobile apps those grids restrict me more as they help. I also taked with a Frontend Dev at my work. He confirmed that such layout grids makes the code more complex if you need to break that grid for some usecases. Now with CSS-Grid it's pretty easy to build up a responsive layout. Sven, what do you think? If you are not so familiar with CSS-Grid now, take a look at this free course: https://cssgrid.io/ (sponsored by mozilla) *Project Board* What do you think about using a project board like Trello? With such a board it's easy to set up tasks for the involved members, follow the progress and it can be also used for reporting bugs. Honestly Bugzilla is extremly annoying to use. It's very mighty, of course. But takes 3x more time to create a new ticket as e.g. Trello takes and screenshots etc. can't be placed from the clipboard. Which is very very useful for bug-tickets ;) Personally I like Trello. Easy, fast, free. Github has a build in project board as well. It's pretty similar to Trello. There are also a couple if open source solutions around. Like wekan.github.io. Michael, what about making the process more transparent and efficient by using a project board? :) Looking forward for you feedbacks. Best, Maurice

Reworking the donation page

Hello, I put together some ideas for the donation page. We have the problem that we basically get no donations any more outside of the wishlist and even those are frankly way too low. The don't even cover our cost. And since we a providing a good product here which saves people a lot of money we should not be afraid to ask for donations. Of course it is still free for everyone to donate or not, but some people need to be reminded that this possibility exists. So we will now add some new features: We will allow donations via credit card and standing order to make this really hassle-free and we will allow recurring donations because some people prefer to give a small amount each month instead of a big amount once a year. We will also remove the variety of currencies and just use EUR & USD and suggest depending on GeoIP which one is default. USD will be default for the US and Canada obviously, but we will try to encourage people to use EUR when ever possible since we pay less fees. Payment options are credit card & SEPA direct debit which support recurring donations. We don't support that with PayPal at the moment, but I think I will need to implement their API. I would like to suggest amounts to donate. That seems to be common practice. We should have 250, 100, 50, 25, 10 and a custom option where people can enter what ever they want. The minimum should be 1 (EUR/USD). If a recurring donation is picked, we should use some JS to halve the amount on those buttons. We have to get the full name and address of the person who donates for tax reasons and secondly to get the payments through because the credit card companies validate those against their own database. We will also collect the email address to get in touch with people. So in the end the process will look like this: 1) Person selects one-time/monthly payment, an amount by clicking on a button and selects the payment type. Click something like "Donate Now". 2) A form is shown to enter name, email & address. 3) Redirect to payment provider to enter credit card stuff, etc. 4) Payment provider redirects back to a thank you page This is probably a good example and done quite similar: https://donate.mozilla.org/ I have also written a few new texts that probably need a little bit of refinement, but should be a good start: Why should I donate? We are proud of what we are doing here at IPFire. We create a free firewall distribution that is free to use for everyone anywhere in the world. To do that, we need to provide the infrastructure to distribute it to our users and provide the right tools for our developers to help them to make IPFire better every day. Donations from individuals and corporations are the only way to keep all of our services free for everyone. They pay for hosting, advertising, purchase equipment and to fund the work of the people behind it. Our ambition is to compete with projects backed by large corporations and proprietary solutions and we cannot do that without you. Become a supporter today! How much should I give? Donations range from single digits donations to hundreds. For us it is important to give something back to help this project to succeed. If you want to help, please do so and encourage others to do so, too. Maybe we will also have a small FAQ depending if people have some difficulties to donate or commonly asked questions. There should also be some area for the smallprint since we need to tell people who they are donating to and that we don't do any refunds, etc. @Maurice: Could you design a page like this? @Sven: Would you be up to implement his with the JS and all other frontend bits? Moving the website relaunch forward...

Hello *, I would like to pick up the conversation on this list again as I just had some one-to-one emails between Sven and me and I of course don't want to exclude anyone. I asked Sven if we would be able to finish the website relaunch by the end of November so that we can launch this before Christmas and get it off of our tables. This seems to be fairly tight now, but he agreed that we should try it and see how close we can get to that deadline. However, there is still a lot to do. It looks like a lot, but it does not seem to be the most difficult since the base layout is already there and the remaining pages are just simple or do not need to be too well styled because they are just for internal use. We can always refine things later, because this is not a drop and then leave kind of situation, but a work in progress... So what is left to do? The main page seems to be okay for me. I think Sven agreed on this but has some minor things which I think we could possibly even fix later. The features page is also done. Then there is many pages where the design does not exist for. Unfortunately we can only launch everything or nothing so that we at least need to migrate them to Bootstrap 4 and implement a new design later if we cannot do now. There are on the main page: http://dev.ipfire.org/imprint http://dev.ipfire.org/chat For these I need some better ideas for structuring the content. They seem quite redundant: http://dev.ipfire.org/get-support, http://dev.ipfire.org/get-involved The error pages need to be fixed: http://dev.ipfire.org/404 There will be some bigger updates for the donation page which I will put in an extra email (http://dev.ipfire.org/donate). Then we go the http://planet.dev.ipfire.org/, http://downloads.dev.ipfire.org/, http://fireinfo.dev.ipfire.org/, http://mirrors.dev.ipfire.org/, http://nopaste. dev.ipfire.org/, http://geoip.dev.ipfire.org/ which are all public. And then we got http://talk.dev.ipfire.org & http://admin.dev.ipfire.org/ which are only for members to log in and therefore not really a priority, but they must work so that we can post on the planet. All in all this looks like a lot, but all those domains have basically two pages and loads of stuff can obviously be re-used so I don't think this is too much work. Maurice, do you have the time right now to design the remaining things? Can I be of any help to implement this? -Michael

Hello everybody, I’m thinkin’ that the coding of the home page has reached a point where we need the site live to discuss. It’s not pixel perfect, the mobile menu is only the bootstrap version from top down and not from the left like in the mookups, the SCSS code is still very chaotic, the image-scaling dosen’t work like expected and the svg scaling dosen’t work at all in Safari, but it’s good enough to have a conversation. @Michael it is possible to include html markup between these brackets {{ _("IPFire") }} for example {{ _(“IP<strong>Fire</strong>") }} @Maurice I have troubles with the colours, in zeplin for example the background is $blue_grey_900 but with a opacity of 0.6 when I put the same values in my css the colour seems darker. But its easier to go all of these details when you see it in your browser. Greetings, Sven

"Fixed" is the proper state if a bug is fixed in my opinion. "Closed" is the state when the fix was confirmed. As far as I remember Michael talked about 1hr or so. But it seems to be wrong.
